Canva - Design Anything
Canva is not a dedicated mind mapping application. It is a template-driven powerhouse design tool for infographics, posters, social media posts, and more. 

Canva Pro is free for educators.
You'll find hundreds of mind map templates and dozens of whiteboard brainstorming templates


The Brain
You can build The Brain on Windows, Mac, Ios, or Android. The free level is robust with unlimited thoughts, links, and notes. Web attachments and basic sync to the cloud are included. 

The free edition also includes 30 days of Pro features to entice you to become a paying customer. They offer a 20% discount to educators. This is a sophisticated software suited for trainer and college use.


Mindomo
Useful free features include sharing, publishing, and collaboration. Many additional K-12 teaching functions are available at discount prices. 


Ayoa 
Whiteboard oriented brainstorming tool. Web, desktop, and mobile-friendly. The basic free level offers enough useful features for personal use. Paid plans are affordable and billed annually. They also offer a 35% discount for teachers.
